Adversity is the opportunity for heroism

I think my goal in life is to have everything going for me at once. I don't think I've ever had that. If one thing's good, the other sucks. Why? I wanna have my cake and eat it too. And what a fucking dumbass phrase. Who's gonna have cake and not eat it? Evidently people that are not getting their way all the time. Or Elaine's boss on ( Read more... )

I actually like the pharse, 'you can't have your cake and eat it too,' though, I didn't understand what it meant for a long time. (I thought it didn't make sense until Burt explained it to me)

I was thinking about the rest of what you said and I ran across this quote in a book I'm reading for a class.

All that has ever been is in this moment; all that will be is in this moment. Both are meeting in one living flame in this unique instant of time. This is drama; this is theater - to be aware of the now. - Robert Edmond Jones

While using quotes to describe something is never exact, I found it to be quite good at summing up. It deals with theater, I know, but it's also a good way to live life.

I agree with that quote. Though it may be hard to see myopically, the best moments of your life are yet to come. Making the best out of the precious few minutes on this planet we have is a very constructive thing to do. Just because the rewards explained to us as we were growing up haven't yet occurred, doesn't mean that they won't happen. As our society evolves, monumental changes in people's lives are occurring later on in life due to the changing economic focus and lack of necessity for survival. I'm very optimistic for the future, for both of us. You and I are one in the same on many different levels and very different on others, but I think that opportunities for us will indeed knock on the door quite frequently and we should take advantage of as many as we can while we're not tied down.

I have become a more optimistic person as of late, and it's throwing my world into a whole new perspective. The transition is much easier said than done, but if achieved, can make life much more manageable.
