While I sit here and ponder a portion of a life gone by, I analyze what choices I have made. A choice is nothing to be taken lightly. Choosing creates destiny. Have we the free will to honestly make an unbiased life altering choice? Or has it been engrained into our minds and our personalities to have choices made before the opportunity to ( Read more... )

I had no choice skoozdag August 27 2004, 02:14:18 UTC
It is only because you're a good friend that I have to disagree with you. If you didn't matter, then I'd just let this pass and nod my head because I wouldn't care if you knew my opinion or not.

We develop values and belief systems based on choice. These ideas are based from our experience; they are not inherent, they are learned, and by having them, we are able to make choices. Destiny does not become pre-ordained. Destiny, in a literal sense, is always pre-ordained because it is inevitable from the start. So choices have nothing to do with destiny.

Free will is a concept that is self fulfilled. Freedom cannot be given. If a boss tells you can arrive at work any time you want he is not giving you a freedom. You were never unable to arrive at work anytime you wanted; you just had a previous agreement with the company that if you didn't show up at a certain time you'd get in trouble. Still, the choice was always yours.

The point I was trying to get across, is throughout the first quarter or so of your life, you develop personality traits that in turn, effect the way you make your choices. Therefore, what I was trying to say, was how you make your decisions in the future is directly effected if not controlled by the developments that occur today. Therefore, in essence, you're making your future choices now with the world you expose yourself to now.

But you are allowed to disagree.....this once.
