New Year's and Thank God for Time Off!

Jan 02, 2008 06:35

In spite of being sleepy from the party and all its attendant craziness, I was up at 5 this morning. Blame Alice's lingering cough and habit of grinding her teeth like a rock tumbler when she's not sleeping well, but also blame my need for some quiet time after the past couple of weeks of extreme business. Christmas already seems ages ago.

Here's my ( Read more... )

That's a cute picture. :D Question: is there any special way that you store pictures you don't presently want on your wall? That seems to be kind of a problem with accumulating art. Eventually there's no room for new stuff, and long before that, things are looking pretty cluttered. Storing things in frames can take up a lot of room, but removing them from frames can be a problem and is pointless if nothing else fits in the same frame. Do you allow yourself to get rid of art you really don't think you'll want to put up again?

We've discussed this a fair bit, actually, since most of us have been trading art for 7 years. Alex and I, and now Mistie and Ryan have a particular surplus of art since two people make art and trade art that comes to one place. Alex and I pretty much go for the overly cluttered, throw everything up in a sort of organized chaos and let the decorator types think of it what they may. Even at that, though, we're running out of space. This year we're thinking of rotating art seasonally. Paintings, etc. that aren't hung at the moment would be stored in the closet, not stacked but arranged vertically so hopefully things don't get crushed or, in the case of thick oil paint in a humid climate, stick together. We have rather few things framed, mainly just photos and a few watercolor paintings. For most of those I consider the frame part of the piece (unless it's a photo I can take out and put in an album when I don't want it on my wall ( ... )

I like the seasonal rotation idea. And it's a good thing that you've agreed that it's OK to take stuff to Goodwill. That would free up options at least.

Try and get them uploaded soon. I think if you order more than 30 prints before the 12th you get htem for 12 cents each or something like that.

Sorry you couldn't make it. I think you and Renia and Dani would have had fun with us, and I would have loved to trade for some of your photos. You'll have to make sure about next year.
