i do love some of bret easton ellis' words. but if he doesn't enjoy stasis, he should take a walk, or get himself lost! a writer's life does not have to be one of stasis and constraint. just because one can afford a comfortable chair does not mean one has to park one's bottom in it every day, i would submit. i do, however, concede (nay, celebrate) his thesis. we do lie for popcorn, and also for smiles and love. and we do lie to give ourselves a better world than that one which called us forth.
