Finding Solace

The night had not been easy. Pike had returned to his quarters with Spock after his training with Jim, only to find that a peaceful, rare night of sleep was not in order. They had fought, him and Spock, which had sent him from the room lest he harm Spock further. It was the first time he could remember not finding solace in the bond, a constant ( Read more... )

She'd had no response to her message by the time Tina woke up in the morning. It was possible that Pike simply hadn't received it yet, but it was also possible that he was ignoring it. And Tina didn't want to leave it to chance ( ... )

The voice he recognized instantly. His fingers tightened on the stylus he was working with, and with a tap he saved and closed the document. "I thought I've made it quite clear I have nothing to say to you." Surely she was here about that trifling note she had sent to him. Did ignoring something not mean the same thing in this universe as in their own? Evidently not, or she was that much a weak-brained fool. He quickly located her in the reflection on the glass in front of him.

Tina nodded, meeting his gaze in the reflection. "Yes. But that doesn't mean I don't have anything to say."

She pulled a chair over and sat down across from him, at an easy speaking distance. "I'm not here to pick a fight." Her lips quirked. "Which we both know I'd lose anyway, right? I'm just worried about Spock. And I know that this is hard for both of you, that you're experiencing things you've never had to face together before. I have some things to say that might help."

She hesitated, and then went ahead and took out the small bottle she'd carried away from sickbay with her. "And some things to give." She leaned over and put it down on the table. She'd been careful to pick one that had the factory seal obviously and visibly intact, though she knew that Pike would want to do his own chemical analysis on the pills inside before trusting them, anyway. But it was a sort of show of good faith.

Pike's eyes shifted from their reflection to the bottle on the table. He picked it up, turning it over and studying the label. The name was not one he recognized, but upon reading the information, understood. It was a mild sedative, enough to make a person drowsy. His mind ran through a quick calculation and decided that when measured in quantities enough for a Vulcan's faster metabolism, there were three doses contained in the bottle.

"Do you honestly believe that within such a short period of time, you truly know anything about Spock?" He questioned in a misleadingly quiet voice.
