Room 214: Sunday Morning

Jul 08, 2007 22:28

After her long and arduous journey from Kaitain to Earth Irulan, her headdress and her floating luggage entered her room. She was tired and emotionally drained that all she managed to do was push her luggage through the door and say, "I'm back."

After a handwavey phone call from Irulan, Evie bounced down the stairs and over to 214 before heading out to flag football. "You're back! You're back you're back you're back!"

Startled from her packing she watched with amusement as Evie bounced into her room, she could have sworn she'd only put down the phone a few moments ago.

"Yes, I am." she said with a smile.

Evie threw her arms around Irulan and hugged her, then backed up a step, still holding onto her arms, and bounced. "Oh, splendid! I missed you! So much has happened! Well, not really, but it seems like it!"

Coming from months of no physical contact the embrace startled Irulan but she quickly hid it, very much glad to be in the presence of a friend.

"I have missed you too," Irulan said and squeezed Evie's arm warmly, "what changes have occurred while I was away? How long was I away in this time?"

Completely misreading Evie's reaction, Irulan nodded, "Yes, it was most disconcerting and I didn't even expect meeting him that way."

Evie's eyes got much larger. "So I would think! And, and--" She stared at Irulan, utterly flummoxed. "And it went... well?" She gave her a hopeful look, curiosity overcoming anything else. "That is to say, you weren't nervous? Or, um. Any discomfort?"

"Nervous?" Irulan thought about it, "a little, we weren't supposed to be there if we were caught goodness knows what would have happened! And it was uncomfortable with the Reverend Mother being the way she was, I think I pity the Lady Jessica even more to have to endure that."

"Ummm..." Evie frowned, confused. "Right, so, exactly where were the Reverend Mother and the Lady Jessica when you-- met?" For lack of a better word.

It took a few moments but Irulan finally shook out of her stupor and took a few careful sip. "Thank you." She croaked out then said, "We were talking about your football flag game?"

And silently prayed Evie would pick-up the change of direction because Paul Atreides! Honestly of all the people to... and with the Reverend Mother and his mother? Irulan shook her head before she fell into another daze.

"We were?" Evie blinked. "We were! Yes! It's in the park, today at noon." If Irulan was willing to let bygones be, Evie wasn't about to stop her. Although really, it was such an interesting topic... "Do say you'll attend and cheer for Gold? Pleeease?"

"We very much were!" Irulan agreed enthusiastically, "and if gold is the color of your team I shall cheer for it."

Irulan took another sip and tried to wipe the memory of the conversation from her mind. Somehow, Irulan knew, this was all Paul Atreides fault.

"Splendid!" Evie gave her another hug, nearly upsetting the glass of water. "I should head into town now-- but we *will* catch up more after the game, won't we?"
