Irulan studied her iPod and then the audio dock. This shouldn't be hard, she belonged in the future, she traveled in spaceships. Yet Irulan found herself puzzling over her iPod and the newly acquired speaker. After much puzzling she finally figured it out. She connected the iPod to the dock, that seems right and all she need do was turn it on.

Ghanima, on the other side of the door, was doing her best not to laugh aloud at the sounds coming from inside as she raised her hand to knock.

"I have pastries, Irulan," she called merrily. "Open the door!"

Irulan nearly jumped but caught herself when she realized it was only Ghanima's voice.

She pushed away her irritation, crossed the room once more and opened the door.

"Ghanima," Irulan greeted, her smile a little strained and, her hair a little out of place. "Thank goodness! Come in!"

"A spoil of war greets her illustrious stepmother," Ghani teased, taking in Irulan's appearance with a grin as she waved the bag of JGoB treats at her. "Have you been battling dust bunnies, then? Waging war against the furniture arrangements?"

The last of Irulan's annoyance vanished replaced by the familiar mixture of fondness and exasperation that only her stepchildren could bring out. She stepped aside to let her in.

"The 'illustrious' stepmother feels a little less 'illustrious at the moment," she replied and glanced at the treats. "Pastries, how wonderful!"

"I've been battling technology. My last stay here I came to like and appreciate it but at the moment I forget why I ever did."
