Explain to me the significance of the Thursday before Shrove Tuesday, as well as what kind of costumes you wear.

Wallowing in self pity is acceptable sometimes. You should always make sure to have plenty of tequila on hand.

This Thursday is the first day of a week of carneval, then lent starts. It has different names here in Germany: Weiberfasching, Gumpiger Donnerstag, Unsinniger Donnerstag...

What traditionally happens: All the wenches (Weiber) have the right to teach the men a lesson. So we take scissors and cut their ties. Sometimes, if they aren't wearing one, we cut the shoelaces. You gotta wear some costume and then have a funny day. Mostly this includes drinking alcohol, singing drinking songs, dancing, ect.

I have to work and my last day at this job, so no running wild for me. But I still dress up and then go to work and cut some ties. Last year I was dressed as a bee, the year before as a ragdoll.
I might wear my medieval costume this time. Pure wenching. ;)

So glad you're feeling better.

Since almost no one is wearing a tie here at Thursday (Schmutziger Donnerstag = Dirty Thursday)my "booty" will be very small. *mutter*
Didn't know that you can cut of shoelaces too....... *biggrin*

I don't like "Weinerle" as one of the radiospeakers called him once. ;)
