In reference to the whitewashing of The Last Avatar movie, Shyamalan says it is "the most culturally diverse tent-pole in history".

I have never wanted a movie to crash and burn as badly as I do now.

Thanks to the racebending comm for linking this.

EDIT: Further stupidity.

it's not a tan

HOW IS ANY OF THIS IRONIC, SHYAMALAN

I always find it ironic that the only reason Shyamalan knows what the series is because his daughter wanted to be Katara for Halloween. "Oh wow, a hero and main character with my skin colour who isn't there to be a Token Minority? .........never mind."

Word is Katara's pretty much just a Female Romantic Lead in the movie, too.

It's going to bite him in the ass if they do a sequel without him and his daughter decides dressing up as movie!Azula would be cooler.

Jordan Hoffman: One of the complaints is this: you have Inuit actors playing the background of the water bending tribe, yet the two leads, Sokka and Katara, are white, so people looking for conspiracy will point to this.

M. Night Shyamalan: When you see the whole movie, where the characters go, the Northern Water Tribe all have the European look that Sokka and Katara have, with a few exceptions here and there.

how does any of this make sense!

I like how we're "looking for conspiracy". It's not a conspiracy when the casting calls said "Caucasian or any other ethnicity", it's outright discrimination.

It'd be awesome if that became a big news story. Highly unlikely, but still awesome

Conspiracy.

Like aliens! Less believable though.

I just-- yes. Please, let this crash and burn. Between this and the cover for the manga adaptation, it is just so blindly obvious what's happened here, and nobody involved is even going to pretend otherwise, and I want that to matter in terms of success/failure.
