Sneezing: a question.

Are you one of these people who suppresses a sneeze and produces some kind of weird noise instead?

If you are can you explain why you do this/started doing this? Did someone tell you to when you were small? Do you have to start early or can you begin at any age? What is it about sneezing that you are avoiding? Tell me everything, okay ( Read more... )

I wouldn't have any idea how to contain a sneeze. It looks so painful when I see other people do it. I'm not a particularly loud sneezer, but I am a natural sneezer. I will try to stop a sneeze from happening in many situations, but if it's going to happen anyway, I just let it happen.

And how did you get on this interesting topic, may I ask? :)

Just something we were talking about on holiday after hearing a few squeakers...

I do tend to suppress them in public to not draw attention to myself, but I love letting go at home or with friends!!

Well, when I sneeze I hold my nose. A strange sound doesn't really ever escape, just a supressed type of sound. Why do I do this? Well I didn't always but about 10 or so years ago whenever I sneezed it was so violent that it was hurting my throat thus I started holding my nose. Weird I know.

Someone told me once that if you hold your tongue to the roof of your mouth, you can sometimes head off a sneeze. It works! Sometimes.

I'm a sneeze-out-loud person. Not terribly loud, but I don't suppress. My husband is a LOUD sneezer. It's irritating, actually, and makes me say to him (almost every time) 'why don't you see an allergist?' Of course he never does, and I continue to ask him. Ah, marriage.

I'm beginning to see now that people get set in these sneezing habits and they seem to just carry on the same way for ever more.

I say the same thing about sniffing: STOP sniffing and blow your nose! And sometimes he does.

Err, squeaking is wrong. Plain and simple. It is on the same level as white bread, the UK's next Top Model, Dick Cheney and fascism. Period.

Me, I sneeze out loud. I usually use a tissue or a hand (and yes, I go wash my hands afterwards thankyouverymuch :p), cause it won't do (especially in company) to sneeze all over the place/your colleagues lunch/the pc screen. :p
