A/N: Alternate Reality. Season 1-3 of Supernatural has already taken place. During the time Jensen and Jared became an established couple. When the series looked to have come to an end Jensen and Jared had settled down together and moved on with their lives. Jensen was studying to become a Marine Biologist. He is either nearly qualified or just at the end of his schooling. It’s been between a year and two since Season 3 ended.

Summary: Two very kind individuals saved one innocent creature a lot of suffering and pain.

It had happened so fast. One moment he was smiling at his luck of finding so many wonderful tasting crustacean and the next he was trapped in a cage. No matter how much he called nothing answered back, even the shark he caught sight of as he was hoisted upward darted away from his cage.

The cage was pulled out of the water and jerked to a sudden stop, sending its captor against the odd bars. Blue eyes went wide as they settled on faces so much like his own it confused him. “Get the captain!”

The captor jerked back away from the call, tail slamming against the cage as others started gathering around the cage. Tools, long poles with deadly looking hooks at the tips were pointed toward the captive. One of the curved points got too close and the captive let out an ear piercing screech as it thrashed.

“Shut it up!”

The cage was momentarily broken, but the sound didn’t stop until something blunt slammed into the back of the captive’s head.

When the call came in, Jensen was out cold, sprawled across Jared’s chest, “Huh? Hello?”

“Jen, I’ve got something you need to see.”

Jared grunted as Jensen shifted to sit up and ended up kneeing him in the thigh, “Sorry Jay, what do I gotta see?”

“Let me put it this way; it was either you or Ripley’s…”

“Alright, I’m on my way.” Jared grunted when Jensen shoved him, “Wake up Sasquatch, my truck’s in the shop and I know how protective you are of that car of yours.”

“I’m up already,” Jared grumbled and sat up to get dressed.

He couldn’t breathe, the first tank had very shallow water but enough for him to breathe, this one held none. He slammed his fists against the sides, causing the same low sound as when he struck the underside of the floating vessels, but it didn’t give.

“Calm down! We’ll get you back in the water,” whatever the voice was rambling on about scared him. He couldn’t see where it was coming from, couldn’t see where he was going, only the bright colors of poisonous fish. When his waterless prison started growling and tipping upward he feared some type of land whale had captured him, trying to eat him. No! He tried to speak but all that came out was raspy sounds that reminded of a walrus. “Get it in the tank before it hurts itself thrashing around!”

The growling got louder as the bucket holding him tipped, he clawed to stay in it, fearing a gaping mouth was beneath it. He couldn’t get a grip and suddenly fell, a massive splash sent water flying. Water, free! The moment he saw it wasn’t a cage or mouth he shot away from the voice, slamming face first into an unseen barrier and knocking himself dizzy.

“Jen, you wanna get in there quick, it’s been banging itself against the tank for half an hour…”

Jensen panicked and rushed into the back, sighing when it looked like the creature had stopped. “Good, you shouldn’t be doing that,” a large dark tail was swaying softly, hiding the rest of the creature from view. “How about you let me get a look at… you….” Blue eyes blinked at him from the closing fins, a very human face appeared as the tail moved out of the way. “Oh my God.”

Curiosity was the first expression he understood and smiled at the eyes watching him. They were as green as sun touched kelp and clear as shallow water. Help? A webbed hand pressed against the evil barrier keeping him from swimming away and the green eyes took on the look of stormy seas.

“You sound so sad…” Another, much bigger, person came up behind the green eyes, making him swim away from the side only to slam into the one behind him. “Easy, it’s okay. This is Jared.”

Jensen watched as those blue eyes watched his hand reach to pat Jared’s shoulder. “What’s it doing?” Jared winced at the sound coming from the tank.

“I think it’s… singing.”

Jared, he filed that away, though he was unable to pronounce it just yet. Jared was obviously male, much taller and built for protecting. That and the way they reacted to one another led him to believe the smaller to be a female. So he did the first thing he could think of, he sang. Notes and rhythm designed to sooth, to convey peace without the need for words. Not wanting ‘Jared’ to fear him stealing his mate or the smaller to worry about his attacking possible pups that could be in hiding.

“So, what are we going to do with it?”

Jensen blinked at Jared, smiling as the song continued. “Take him with us.”

“Him?”

“Yeah, least that’s what the human portion reads like.”
