You know, I always wished I had been involved with some of that role-playing online, but I never was. I'm sorry it's being so difficult for you these days.
Welcome back! I agree with everyone who said that hobbies should be FUN and if they aren't and don't look to be in the foreseeable future, then it's time to walk away.
On one hand, allergy tests are annoying and not a lot of fun to go through (I have done the skin prick and the 72 hr patch test and can talk about them more if you want). On the other hand, it's something of a relief to know what's causing the problem. On the third hand, if it's gluten, I am so, so sorry for you. I don't know what I'd do without bread in my life.
I would probably keep a hobby that made me cry very, very occasionally, assuming I really enjoyed it the rest of the time. However, if your overall average with the hobby isn't Fun, it's definitely time to look for something else (or at least different companions, depending on whether the activity or the people you're doing it with are the source of the problem).
Good luck with the allergy tests! I would hate to have a gluten allergy, but there are still options for bread, pasta, cookies, and whatnot. I even know some chain restaurants that have good gluten-free options, thanks to RA's visits.
