Way to go, GLBT community

Last night belladonna93  got stuck in a massive anti-prop-8-ruling protest on her way home.  It took her more than an hour and a great deal of frustration and anxiety to work her way through blocked-off-streets, crowds of protesters, and jammed traffic.  The same thing happened to me twice in the week following the passage of Proposition 8.

If you were on the receiving end, might you also react that way?

Echoes of the protests of the late 60s and the 70s in the gay community.

What if Thelema got declared to be "Not a Valid Religion" by State Vote, and that Thelemites had no right to marry. And a hostile Christian Majority voted against Thelemites?

I SERIOUSLY doubt the combined Thelemic SubCommunities could put as many people in the street to protest a loss of right, or a theft of rights.

And in my more snarky moods, that 90% of the oppressed Thelemites wouldn't have the strength of their conviction to take it to the streets.

And I'm being nice when I speculate that 10% would fight for their rights.

I think you have misunderstood me. I'm all for fighting in the streets to defend rights. What seems pointless is to "fight" in a community that already supports you wholeheartedly. What does that accomplish?

Within the "Community" it is also a manifestation of GROUP-Emotion over the issue, and a sponteous outburst in protest. Any organization of it is just window dressing at best, a few egos trying to "guide" the mass feeling.

This may be alien and illogical to your "Vulcan" ways.

Maybe. For one thing, I am to one degree or another at least two of GLBT, so it is my struggle, too. Just that if I thought protest would help the situation, I'd be doing it in Sacramento, or Irvine, or some other place where it might make a difference. Nobody ended southern segregation by sitting in at Boston lunch counters.
