It's strange that, despite we being a community of people that are practically obsessed about the conflict going on in Israel we did not once talk about the disengagement from Gaza

The bombing raised pressure on Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas to crack down on militant groups. Israel has said any progress in peacemaking after the Gaza withdrawal will require Abbas to disarm the militants - a step he so far has been unwilling to take.
On Saturday, Hamas released a videotape purportedly showing its top bombmaker celebrating the Gaza pullout as a victory for armed resistance and calling for continued attacks until Israel is destroyed. The bombmaker, Mohammed Deif, has been in hiding from Israeli troops since 1992.I don't really feel at liberty to give a long response right now. I've thought for a while that the only solution is Israeli withdrawal without the basis of a peace treaty. It seems obvious to me that the P.A. and the Israeli government just can't agree on what to do. There is something I would do differently though. I would have just told the settlers that after a certain deadline, they would become Palestinians, and their government would be the P.A, if they chose to stay. No one would be forced out of his home, and most would leave anyway. The future looks better for everyone involved.

I agree with you that the decision was a good thing, but I disagree with your take on what Israel should have done. First, the P.A. does not want those Israelis as citizens. Also, those Israelis hate the Palestinians. Therefore, having them stay would result in violent conflict, civil war, and massive amounts of deaths.

I'm glad the settlements are gone from that area. I wish more were dismantled. I understand that the people living there were distraught, but I found all the drama and wailing embarrassing, since it completely ignored the fact that the same has happened to other people

Hello... :) "Now, if some Jewish people had moved into Palestinian neighborhoods with the attitude, "we've come to live among you and to know you and share the land," they might have come to some understanding, on a personal level. Setting up upscale suburban neighborhoods separate from the residents, while cutting off local roads was bound to be infuriating and insulting. "I just wanted to say 'I agree'
In reaction to this pullout I've been hearing more and more radical pro-israel whacko statements... How frustrating.
Disengagement from GazalordweiderSeptember 29 2005, 11:12:20 UTC
I believe that the latest news proved that the disengagement really created a quiet place for the Palestinians to prepare their doubtful activity more throughoutly. Some extreme leftists believe that people that are raised their entire life in hatred against other nation will leave their violent ways and become doctors and teachers. Tell me people, what the hell will Hamas and Islamic Jihad leaders and peons do if Israel gives Palestinians everything they want? They have no idea about anything else, but violence. A good example is Hezbollah leaders. When Israel got out of Lebanon, they invented new ideology of freeing the "occupied" Galil and Hula valley. Otherwise they would not be able to maintain their political and military power in Lebanon
