Avoiding housework...

Not much happening here. I've spent a lot of time in the kitchen this week.  I've never been an accomplished cook to begin with, but, oh my, what fun this has been, using a celsius, gas oven (that browns only on the bottom) and trying to figure out grams and milliliters to measure the ingredients. Fun also, is trying to follow recipes on mixes ( Read more... )

Don't kill her! She'll be better! She promises!!! :p

At least your oven could make a perfect pineapple upside down cake:)

I think you're showing remarkable restraint :-)

And I was grumping about having an electric rather than a gas stove! Are you able to find the ingredients you need to make familiar dishes, at least?

I've never thrived staying at home all day either. I'm not very self-driven and find that I do much better when I have something external driving me, like a job I need to show up for.

Thanks, Sherri.

I'm able to find the fresh produce I need, but their diet is so different here, it's hard, or impossible to get a lot of the products and ingredients I'm accustomed to using. I could write an entire entry about the differences in the food/diet here.

Having worked full time all of my life, staying home all day is hard to adjust to. Sometimes I feel like I'm left with too much free time to think. I lack self motivation some days too. Once we return to America, even if I don't return to full time work, I'm sure I'll be able to keep much busier.

I'm terrible when it comes to having unstructured time.

Those town hall meetings are starting to scare me! I think she did a pretty good job, too.

I hope you hear from Melissa soon (or already have since I'm so far behind).

I'm finding that I am too. Either I'm nonstop busy cleaning, or nada. =/

From what I'm able to read, those townhall meetings are absurd. It's a little embarassing to watch the clips.

Still no word from Melissa. I'll try to call her again tonight.

I did indeed, Stephanie. Thanks. She was busy moving into a new apartment, one floor up.

So wait, does this mean you've been basically staying at home for over a year?? That's nuts! I can barely handle a couple of weeks without anything to do.

Mmmmm, that sounds similar to my Kenyan cooking situation. I've never cooked with mixes, though. I'd love to hear more about the diet there, it's fascinating to see what people around the world eat.

Hope Melissa gets back to you soon!

No, but I'm not working, and since Kurt's work schedule has changed, I've spent more time in the house than I'd like. It is about to drive me nuts. I know that I can take the bus into town, but really have no desire to spend my day at the bus stops waiting, just to walk around the town square. My US license got stolen with my wallet, so my plans to get a Belgian one are nixed until our visit back to the states next month. (I have to send my US one off to acquire a BE one.)

We do go on a lot of outings over the weekend. This has helped me to keep my sanity...somewhat.

I don't usually use mixes either, but attempted to make a Belgian chocolate cake using one. It was edible, but not very good. I think my oven is defective. :S

I'll definitely write about the diet here oneday. I'd like to actually write more about the differences in the landscape and culture too.
