Hiroshima & Miyajima

*dusts off LJ*

Yeah, haven't been on much lately. If I did, my entries would probably look like this:

Woke up.
Went to work.
Taught English (maybe).
Came home.
Had dinner.
Played World of Warcraft/Watched a movie/Read a book.
Went to bed.

Why? Nothing really special has been going on. Just because I am in Japan, does not make my life an anime ( Read more... )

miyajima, hiroshima, world heritage sites, travel, japan

Hey Maggie, your videos took forever to load, so I couldn't watch them. :(
Glad to know you had fun though!
Our own trip approaches...mwa hah hah.

I don't know why they should take an espically long time to load - they are close to 10 mins each, but less than 50mb in size. Perhaps you have a slow connection or youTube was especially busy at that time.
It was fun :)
In retrospect, I doubt I'm going to be able to afford both a Japan and Korea trip; I think we should do just Japan or just Korea. Let me know which you would prefer (I'm okay with either).

Your travels are awesome! Do you travel alone to all these places? I just heard on the news about an earthquake...hope it wasn't near where you are...I will have to check a map

Hey Pat,
I went to Hiroshima/Miyajima all by myself, but Kyoto and Takayama I went with friends.
There was an earthquake near me at about 9:40am my time - I was at work getting my lessons ready (we start at 10). From what I can gather from my students, at the epicenter (some distance from here) it was about a magnitude 6 on the Richter scale, but in Ogaki/Gifu it was about a 3. It shook the building I was in for a good minute; it was rather scary actually. The strange thing was that I felt rather ill just before it hit - I dunno what that means. Anyway, everything here is okay, and Japanese buildings are designed to mitigate as much damage as possible.

Several things to comment on here:
- enjoyed your trip and commentary.
- did you get lots of stares as you were making and talking your videos?
- did you collect a kitty-chan?
- did you get a chance to buy a steak sandwich there?
- did you feel any vibrations at the shrines there? I know you commented on the strange feeling of uneasy peace.
- just read about the earthquake in the paper and on the net, wondered how you were doing with that. Glad to hear it wasn't too bad for you.
- will be sending you a separate email

Several replies:
- Glad you liked it :)
- No stares; there were lots and lots of other Gaijin (foreign) tourists (as well as Japanese ones).
- I collected many kitty-chan's ^@_@^
- No steak sandwiches (and waaaay to expensive anyway); but I did have some lovely pasta at my hotel's restaurant.
- No vibrations per se. It's difficult to describe.
- Earthquake was a ways a way but we felt in the Gifu area. Official word was 3.6 in Nagoya area. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. Very creepy.

You really have to brush up on your sea life. Those were octopi, squid have long heads and two tentacles longer than the rest, an octopus has eight arms with tentacles all along the arm. How come you didn't go into the baseball stadium for me? (lol) I really envy your trips and adventures, have as many as you can.
Love Dad

I know.. it's your fault for moving me to land-locked Alberta; no sea life to study! ^_-
I thought they were octopi at first, but then one of them moved funny and his head vaguely looked like a squid, so I was confused. :(
The staduim wasn't open; I think the official season starts sometime in April.
I remembered the team name: they are the Hiroshima Carps.
*hugs*

Nope I don't believe you.
You live in Japan so your apartment is being destroyed and magically restored by Giant Mecha robots piloted by school girls every alternating Wednesday and Friday.

It was great to hear from and I Loved the videos of the aquarium they are fantastic. The quality of the camera is great!

Looks like the weather is fantastic! Here its bipolar. Did you get any shocks from the big earth quake or are you too far away?

I wish. Although we have had enough destruction attempts to make it seem so; did you see my video on the fire? And then the earthquakes. Crazy.
I'm glad you like my videos. That was acutally the lowest quality setting on my camera so I could get the most amount of footage, over 3 hours (as it turned out I don't need to worry about that footage). It can even shoot in HD, but then I only get 15 mins of footage, total :P
The weather was pretty chilly in Gifu when I left and raining when I returned. Hiroshima's was okay, but windy. Today, however, has been just lovely! Feels like spring; in fact the forecast is for cherry blossoms in the next week! They have already bloomed in Tokyo.
