Moral: Don't date Kamen Riders. Or else date an Oni.

A random comment by spideywing in IRC made me sit down and calculate up the percentages of UST to death in Kamen Rider shows in the Heisei era. Here's what I came up with (up through 2012's Movie War Megamax):

IF YOU HAVE A SIGNIFICANT OTHER WHO IS A KAMEN RIDER AFTER 2000- There is a 53% chance you will live ( Read more... )

Apparently Hibiki is the best universe to date a Rider in!

Yes! You are pretty much guaranteed to live no matter what happens there.

Well, until Toshiki Inoue gets his hands on things, at least.

It's gotten to the point where my toku buddies and I will scream "ONORE DICKEIDO" when anything goes wrong, but the joke is getting played out when we do it on IRC. When we do it in RL though (for example, we'll probably do it every 10 minutes at MAGfest next week), it never gets old.

Interesting data.

Although I stand by my facts that Mio died for no reason but for angsting (hadn't Wataru angsted enough by that point?!) and that it would have beeen MUCH kinder to Maya if King had just killed her outright.

The data, it does not lie. (you get a cooki if you get the reference)

Yeah, IMO, Mio and Maya's ends pretty much all came down to just Toshiki Inoue's standard operating procedure. He can't do a series without writing in angst + death and disaster to SOMEBODY, especially significant others. Sometimes it works well (Agito and Faiz), and other times it's just completely friggin' unnecessary (Kiva, Hibiki once he took over, though we're lucky he only had it for 20 eps, which wasn't enough to really kill anyone off). Honestly, Mio could've EASILY survived/blocked one of those attacks. :(

I don't get the ref, but it sounds maddeningly familiar. XD

I usually chalk it up to Mio still not being sure of her powers and how they worked and Maya had to live so she could give birth to Wataru. Kiva also left some massive plotholes behind, so we may never know the truth behind it all.

And the reference is the following. Before Araki Hirofumi became known to the toku world as one of the coolest sentai villains ever, the Black Liom, Rio, he was in the Prince of Tennis musicals as Inui. His solo song was translated as "Data Doesn'Lie". *giggle*

You missed the girl Ryo had a thing for at the end of the series.

I didn't miss it so much as "I've not watched Agito past episode 16, so I was hoping for someone speak up". And you did! Thank you. XD

All of these are women!! What about the HoYay pairings? Hoppers - dead, Kusaka - deader than dead, it goes on!

EDIT: You can put Double there. T-Rex Dopant/Shotaro was at least one-sided canon (because she said she loved him) and IIRC she's still alive but in jail ...

About the only HoYay pairing I could think of that wasn't Rider/Rider was Takumi/Yuji, and I'll add that. But I was trying to avoid pairings where everyone's a Rider, because that would skew the results from this attempt at calculating civilian UST death. (lol, maybe if I had said civilian from the start, it would've been clearer what I was trying to do)

Good call on the Double one too; I'll add that as well.
