If you're here, you're one of the proud, incredible people who adore Kitty Burroughs' recent novel The Posterchildren. And if you wound up here by accident, I recommend you check it out anyway, this stuff is good.
I filled my own prompt earlier tonight and I forgot to add the rating and it's not exactly kid-friendly, but it's been too long for me to edit to post so what do I do?
Nah, jk. I unfortunately don't have an easy solution from a "mod" standpoint either. Short of saying THE MAKS + FLEXIBILITY PROMPT IS FILTHY in caps, I can't do much else. Just keep the rating thing in mind for future, a'ight?
Rosario's birthday was coming up, in the dead heat of summer. Well, "dead heat" didn't do the weather in Oregon justice. Things up here rarely hit anything above 90º F. So Jack could afford to wear his usual trousers and long sleeves, if he didn't mind sweating, which he didn't. However, on occasion, he could be seen with his sleeves pushed up past the elbow, ambling next to Rosario on their way to class. Jack didn't ever remember school during summer time, but he supposed things were different now. Like always, he followed Rosario's lead.
Except, for this one instance, he wanted to slip away, out of Rosario's bubble. With her birthday fast approaching, he wanted to get her something. He was a little fuzzy on what, but he was determined to surprise her with a gift on her day. It felt like... the least he could do. Well as, he just wanted to do something kind for her. But with their situation as it was, he wasn't seeing a lot of possibilities to go out and do some stealth shopping. Heck, he didn't even know if

Rosario swept into the room, fixing Libby with a disapproving look. "Don't shout." Her eyes met Jack's, and maybe it was just wishful thinking, but they seemed to warm up. "Now why are you causing a riot in the living room?" she addressed him in the same tone, but her expression hinted at her playfulness

apparently i am weak and cannot resist this prompt

"-I saw you Amira," the Commander was griefstriken. It was a terrible thing to witness. John was a powerful man with a soft heart. It was often bandied around the press releases as a strength, but it was a doubled edged sword that caused more harm than help at present. She couldn't pretend to be ignorant of her Knight's relationship with her fallen Rook on most days, because John always shifted uncomfortably when the topic of his long history with Corbin threatened to broach their conversation. Their relationship was the deepest type of friendship known, although it was easy to feed the public a lie when it had been so well rehearsed.
Today, however, she couldn't ignore it. The Queen would not suffer coddling her Knight any longer.
"-you were dry eyed like the desert. Not a single tear and Corbin is g-"
"Enough." It was not a shout. It was not a plea. It was not a request. It was a command, as unyielding as the ocean's tide. John raised his head from his hands,

Ernest gradually came out of sleep, shuffling toward the side so as to accommodate the ball of warmth tucked against his side. Then he paused. Because he had definitely got into bed alone that night. June was in New York with explicit instructions that he wasn't allowed to follow her home this time. So like a scolded puppy he resigned himself to a long weekend without her. It was amazing how well they worked. As partners and... -his toes curled with pleasure at the thought- as a couple. But his mooning would have to wait

"Uhm," he replied, hands awkwardly held up and away from the koala incarnate wrapped around his middle. What was he supposed to do with his hands? Did... he put them on Maks? Maks wouldn't have a problem with that, but Ernest could imagine someone else might have a problem with it, even if Ernest was trying to avoid hurting Maks feelings by asking him to leave.
Maks raised his head, resting his chin over Ernest's heart, so he could twinkle face to face at Ernest. His grin was a little lopsided. "If you're uncomfortable, I can go," he offered up generously, tightening his limbs around Ernest unwillingly. "I'll wander the lands of Maillardet's all by lonesome, heartsick and weeping," he added with a weighty sigh, because Maks liked things dramatic. "June mentioned you might be shy about this kind of thing." With that offhand comment, the performance ended, Maks laying his cheek on Ernest like he was a pillow.
This was cause for more spluttering on Ernest's part. "June knows about this?" To his shame, his voice squeaked
