I also received a "Japanese for Idiots JETs" book. JSL aside, I really hate looking at a bunch of romaji, so I probably won't be reading it much.  It does have CDs though, so maybe they'll be slightly useful. It also comes with a snazzy kana chart /useful phrase poster.

Yea! I have no idea where in Japan Kobe is, but it was apparently your first choice, so that makes me happy for you!

As for where it is, it's right by Osaka and Kyoto (since those are more well-known), but it's also a decent city in its own right too (just less crowded than those two cities). They have awesome food and a cool dialect, but most importantly, that's where I studied abroad, so I'm excited to be able to go back there :D
