The building had finally quieted down, after hours upon hours of people rushing in and out. Plans were made, orders issued, angry citizens placated either by speech or by vice, an endless stream of calls and media and the only real sanctuary was overruled by chaos as well. So Reeve had done what he did best- waded through the mayhem and tried to cram it back into some semblance of order. He was only partly successful, even on the best of days; today had been a bit more trying ( ... )

Aurelius was unpreturbed by the welcome that she received, and she simply stepped more into the room. She was a little more awkward as she tried to look around the office and walk at the same time, but somehow, she managed to keep herself on her feet. It was a nice office, the kind meant for a king or a ruler. It was vast and cold... too cold ( ... )

The embrace was the last thing Reeve had expected- he tensed, staring in disbelief, before very gently putting calloused hands on her shoulders to steady her. This was getting stranger by the minute. Making a soft humming noise, Aurelius pushed her long silver hair back at his confused questions. She smiled faintly and looked around his office as she considered what to say about that. "Why not? You are a kind man, Reeve... I sometimes think the pressure of this position keeps you from enjoying what you are working so hard to perserve." Slowly, she reached out and stroked a finger down his cheek. "I was unconscious in the hospital, so it would have been pointless for you to go there ( ... )
