Bra-Capades

So, I went bra shopping yesterday because it was desperately needed. Admittedly, this was a store that sells things at a very, very steep discount, so I can only assume that they are mostly seconds. I got them for $3 each. The thing I thought was funny was that all 4 were different sizes (and odd sizes at that): 40D (not so odd), 38DD (a little ( Read more... )

The sad part is, most places don't offer my size, anyway. I realize that I'm a big girl, but I'm not that big.Bra's suck! If I could sew, I would totally reengineer the damned things to be comfortable, stay comfortable, and supportive for those of us who actually have breasts that need support!

Sorry. I'll stop ranting now.

If you don't mind me asking, what size are you? I am sort of in the same boat, because I am on the very lowest end of bra sizes for plus-size stores but the very highest end of sizing for regular stores. So I think this place has stuff at such a steep discount because they buy the odd sizes that don't sell, which is a bonus for me.

It depends on the manufacturer. According to Victoria's, a couple years ago may not apply now, I am a 40 DD. Half the time I try a 40dd on, I'm spilling out of it, and the band never fits right. The last time I went seriously bra shopping I varied from 40-44, D-DDD. Bra shopping is lots of no fun.

Bra sizes aren't consistent between manufacturers, as both of you certainly know. :-P I've also read several feminist blogs suggesting that if you aren't a "perfect" 36C, the fashion and clothing industry really doesn't care about you.

This is why I keep telling Laura she should put her enjunearing skills to work and design a better bra. Every time I see a bra in action, I'm struck by how poorly-designed they are; shoulders are a terrible place to distribute weight, for example, and the size is non-adjustable in all the wrong places. Seriously, brassiere technology hasn't moved forward much in a century; it's time to evolve!
