Yesterday, a big storm came. Bee was driving to come get me and M.E. from the library, when he saw the storm coming right at him. (You ever done that- driven into a storm? I don't imagine anyone will ever congratulate my son on his classical education. Though he has learned to be a much more critical thinker since he became a homeschooler. We go back and forth with unschooling and some instruction, because while I do encourage and aid my son's interests, they pretty much stay the same year after year; anime, punck rock, drawing and skateboarding. Sometimes politics. At first I thought it might lead him to want to study Japanese language and history or American government or even to learn to play an instrument, but that hasn't happened. He has become a progressively better artist and learned a lot about certain bands and musical styles, and he reads a lot- though it's almost exclusively graphic novels. He hates writing by hand, but recently surprised me by taking up writing with the keyboard. He's pretty good too. Seems like just reading teaches him what he needs to know about sentence structure and proper grammar. I can't help being worried that I'm not doing right by him, so I go back and forth ( ... )
