Back Issue Hunt

May 14, 2010 22:52

I'm trying to put together a complete set of the X-Men "Shattering/Twelve" crossover, and apparently those issues are really hard to find these days. If any of you guys have the following issues and would be willing to part with them for a reasonable price, please let me know.

Gambit # 8
X-51 # 8
Wolverine # 145, 146, 147

Seriously? But this was back in the day when reprints were pretty much mandatory. That's really surprising. You'd think they'd be easy to find and at least the cover price if not cheaper.

I'd suggest looking at the trades for The Shattering, The Twelve, and Ages of Apocalypse. But the Gambit and X-51 issues aren't included in those.

I've seen the trades, but they're not useful for what I need. I'm putting together the complete series so I can get them bound into a custom hardcover (as I've been doing with my comic collection for the last few years). The prices on those "Twelve" issues are staggering, though. All the issues around them are a buck or two, but the crossover issues are 20-30 dollars apiece! Even the Cable tie-in issues with the shitty Rob Liefeld art go for 30 bucks, it's just crazy. I assumed they were so hard to find and in demand because it was one of the few X-Men crossovers that hadn't been collected in trade. But the trades for it came out in 2009, so you'd think the prices on the issues would bottom out. Crazy, ain't it?

I've thought of doing that custom hardcover thing a few times, but not sure when I'll have the time to actually sift through my collection, given that it's back in Chicago.

One of the things I'd like to do is collect a lot of the digital comics I have as complete trades, like the Defenders stuff. But not sure if the POD places would go for that.
