See the little face up there that looks as if it's asking "WTF?!" that is what I looked like yesterday afternoon. I went to the library- I love libraries... and librarians (I used to be a clerk!)- because I wanted to check out a copy of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. I own a copy (actually I have a Lewis Carroll collection) but it's still ( Read more... )

alice in wonderland, lewis carroll, rant, epic stupidity, libraries

I know. His work is nonsensical and whimsical and all sorts of wonderful. I live in Canada- currently in the Province of Manitoba. I'm going to check out the other libraries littered across the city soon, because I'm pretty sure they aren't as useless as that one.

He wasn't even on the drugs when he wrote Alice in Wonderland, wtf does she know? -_- And back then, everyone used opium.

If it makes you feel better, the Athabasca public library DOES carry a copy of it AND Through the Looking Glass. (they're together) I know that for sure...it was the first book I got out from there because they didn't have it at my high school. <3

That's part of why I made the "WTF" face. I know Athabasca has a copy... I was the Clerk/rural librarian for Smith for a Year before they found someone with an actual degree in that area to overtake the job. I used to order it in from there for the kids who wanted to read it; it was a really popular book.

Oh you did? XD Oh okay.

It's good that it was popular in Smith. It should be. It's a awesome book.

I just wish I had the motivation when I had it out to finish reading through the looking glass...

Heehee, not only was it my firts book from there, it was the first and only time I had to pay late fees! XD

I know... it's just one of those books you don't want to return.

I know he wasn't, and I know Alice in Wonderland isn't about drugs. That's another part of why I was so confused by the whole thing.

epic stupidity is frustrating and for that i do sympathize BUT you might chose to see the occurance as a very "carroll-ian" event. Very much like the pig and pepper scene or rule 42: all persons over a mile high must leave the court room.

i suggest putting the event out of your mind or, if you have the time, go through and be very helpful, collect all the books by known substance abusers and present them to said librarian. dust off your hands as a good days work done and say to her, madam, you are MOST welcomed.

if they have James Frey for example or Kerouac or Ginsberg's Howl. a little time on the wikipedia should provide quite a lovely list of substance-abuseing authors.
