I absolutely love the way she turns him out on his head before the end. I was worried she'd drift away silently rather than bring out the truth, but it's less like comeuppance and more like speaking up for the first time.
I'm always a sucker for the trope of the real magician who takes to the stage like that.
I read through this, impatiently, wondering when she was going to get her comeuppance. But you kept piling on indignity after indignity, frustrating me. Therefore it was wonderful to watch Edward come apart. Good writing.
I loved the whole idea of real magicians performing, with the dynamic between the gifted "assistant" and the lesser (and lazier) headliner! This was very well done, and kept me interested all the way through.
