I liked the way every crewmember involved in the investigation contributed in a meaningful and intelligent way, or more specifically, that you didn't just reduce them to window dressing to enhance the main characters. In light of which, I think the *coolest* thing about this story is that Kirk still seemed to be lightyears ahead of everyone, even while they all displayed various levels of genius and competence.
Additionally, the mood here was very well-balanced. I didn't feel like the amount of death going on was drowning the rest of the emotional content out and making it all pure angst, and while there were quite a few moments where I distinctly remember laughing (the whole thing with the oranges was *hilarious*), it wasn't reduced to parody.
Well done.
Also; chanel_5 is right, it *is* nice to see a real K/S story (finally!).
I'm not usually one for murder mysteries, but I really enjoyed this! All the little worldbuilding tidbits (like the different death ceremonies) were awesome, and the suspense and characterization built really well over the course of the story. Great job on this, it deserves a lot more comments :)
