FOOD QUESTION:

for those of you who are living on your own and/or cooking for yourself regularly, or just like to cook, what are the top ten or fifteen ingredients you can always rely on?
What are your desert-island, top ten, most useful foods?

if i had to start completely over, with nothing in my kitchen at all, this is what i would buy on my first grocery shopping trip (although i'm quite confident it will go over 15 items ( ... )

Juice
Peanut butter (OR dried beans/nuts)
Cereal
(at least, that's what WIC expects me to live off of.)

aaaand...
bread
some sort of deli meat
deli meat condiment.

cuz I like sammiches,
and bread can make toast.

gah! where have i been? definitely not here :( i am a bad, bad ally. and i mean that as the regular noun, not the proper noun. i'm sneaky like that. so ok. here goes....(and this is in NO order of importance)

TOP TEN FOOD ITEMS:

1) ketchup. this is what i put on any food if it tastes horrible, but i still have to eat it. it's also what i give to people if they think my food tastes horrible... only i put it in their EYES!

2) bagged mixed greens. it has to be kept fresh, but if in a pinch, a bag of baby greens thrown together with whatever else i can scrounge up can make a somewhat satisfying (and not-so-boring) salad should i have last-minute company. not to mention, herb mixes and baby spinach are pretty damn awesome.

3) chicken. it's how i get protein. not to mention, it's much more versatile than most meats, and i'm pretty sure it still tastes like chicken even after being frozen and rethawed 500 times. plus, since everything already tastes like it, you don't have to worry about contaminating tastes!

4) fresh garlic. i'm an ( ... )
