apparently the big debate is over as astronomers from all over the world decide once and for all that henceforth pluto is no longer a planet.

Only 424 of the 10 000 + astronomers worldwide voted.

it seems that is enough to make it official. i really don't know enough about planets or celestial bodies in general to make an educated comment on it. i do, however, like their point about pluto having a wonky orbit and crossing neptunes path for part of its year. a planet shouldn't do that as far as i'm concerned. but i will miss pluto as a planet. mind you, i'd rather see 12 planets instead of 8; i don't know why, it just seems like a nicer number than 8.

"That plan proved highly unpopular, splitting astronomers into factions and triggering days of sometimes combative debate that led to Pluto's undoing. In the end, only about 300 astronomers cast ballots.

Combative. I imagine this.
"PLUTO HAS ALWAYS BEEN A PLANET!"
"NEW FINDINGS SHOW IT IN A DIFFERNT LIGHT!"
"BAHH!!! IT IS THE NINTH PLANET!!! HOW IS OUR SOCIETY TO PROGRESS IF WE ARE ALWAYS CHANGING EVERYTHING TO GO BACK FROM THE START AGAIN!?"
"YOUR A MORON< HOW CAN WE PROGRESS IF NOTHING EVER CHANEGS!"
"YA!"
"LOOK AT THIS! IF NEPTUNE AND PLUTOS ORBIT MIX< THEN WHOS TO SAY NEPTUNE ISN"T A PLANET AS IT HASN"T CLAER PLUTO OUT OF IT"S ORBIT!!"
"NEPTUNES OWN ORBIT HAS BEEN [gets interputed]"
"NEPTUNE IS NOT UP FOR DEBATE! WE ARE DEBATING PLUTO!"
"GAH YOU ARE ALL NITWITS!"

or something.
