Interesting note: I was playing Trivial Pursuit the other day, and a question came up asking about a "pop astronomer". I wondered what the hell a "pop astronomer" was, then a little voice in my head said, "that describes pretty well what Carl Sagan does/is/did/was."
Interesting note II: Alton Brown originally got his education in cinematography. But he felt called to do a higher-energy, more informative cook show than existed at the time. So he went back to school to learn cooking and all the scientific processes in the kitchen JUST so he could make Good Eats, which he hoped to be Mr. Wizard meets Monty Python meets Julia Child.
