"I've been 'fraid of changin'..."

Apr 16, 2010 05:34

I sang "Smells Like Teen Spirit" at a Karaoke bar a few nights ago.
My voice broke a couple times during the song.
I think Kurt would have approved.

. . .

Also, I got this girl's number. I have no clue what to do with it. (I mean, I know what the protocol is, here, I'm just fucking paralyzed with fear.)

Calling her and saying "What are you doing this weekend?" might be a start.
No fear. You'll be fine.

You need to get in there and make a move. Hit her with everything you've got. Don't just do it for yourself, either; do it for all of us losers who have been too frightened to make any kind of a move on a girl any time in the past 5 years or so.
No pressure or nothing, but if you don't come through you will have let us all down in a really big way.

Donan's right. I can also say: coffee shops are good because you can meet there any time of day and, if things aren't going well or you aren't on your A-game and need to bail out and try again, you can make an excuse to leave. So scenario A is you meet for morning coffee, buy her a muffin, realize that you can't think of anything to discuss, tell her you enjoyed getting to know her and would like to do it again soon, then act as though you have a big day to get on with and leave. Scenario B is you meet for an afternoon coffee break, buy her a cookie, have a great time chatting and decide to go catch a movie together. Of course there are a hundred other scenarios, but coffee is a great jumping-off point.

I should also mention that movies are good "first dates" because you don't have to scrap up conversation with a person you barely know. So, depending on if you think you'll have things to talk about or if this girl is very into or not really into movies... there's two good options for ya here.

But if you're really lucky, she will suggest something to do!
