My idea for how to make the rest of Lost awesome

Lost has a few great things going for it--and a few real problems. Sweety and I realized that we enjoyed this episode extra-much for a few good reasons: more Miles, no Kate.

My brilliant idea that would never happen even if the season weren't already scripted and shot )

I am carefully not reading this b/c I have not seen any of Lost yet. But I totally need to hear, once it's over, whether the ending was reasonably coherent, so I can determine whether it's worth renting it. :-)

Ken Leung is amazing, isn't he? I'd seen him in three different things pre-Lost and didn't recognize him. Okay, once he had bleached hair and another time he had quills coming out of his face, but I think it's just because he's such a good actor.

I've been seeing a lot of Miles love on my f'list lately and I'm just not getting it. I find him a terribly wooden actor and his death-psychic schtick is just dumb. I also find his sarcasm grating, which is odd given that I like sarcasm and have been known to indulge in it from time to time myself. I wonder if my general disappointment in mid-to-late-season Lost has poisoned the well for me with respect to all "new" characters; I can't really think of any I like, to be honest. Richard, I guess, with his eyeliner and his much-put-upon facial expressions.

Be that as it may! You and I have had some pretty amazing conversations about Lost and gender over the years, and a recent post on the Tiger Beatdown blog (which blog I have come to adore) discusses with amazing clarity the sorts of problems we have with all those ladies without jobs who spend all their time mooning over boys. Perhaps you'll enjoy the post as much as I did.

I like Miles because he makes me laugh. There's not enough reason to laugh on that show. And I have always liked Ken Leung. I don't find him wooden, just subtle. But we don't have to have all the same favorite characters.

That said, there have been too dang many new characters. It's a deserted island with a revolving door to practically anywhere.

Thanks for the link to the post. It was funny! Yes, I am really tired of all the woman=uterus stuff on Lost. There has been less of it this season, which is a relief.

I like the point about how Lost is basically really good manly pulp fiction. I think that's pretty much true. In one of those specials, one of the creators talked about how every character has to have his moment to "man up," and that's when I realized that he really didn't consider the female characters *characters* so much as set dressing and plot device.

It's kind of frustrating, because I still like Lost, but the sexism gets in the way for me at times.
