Lost has a few great things going for it--and a few real problems. Sweety and I realized that we enjoyed this episode extra-much for a few good reasons: more Miles, no Kate.
(
My brilliant idea that would never happen even if the season weren't already scripted and shot )

Be that as it may! You and I have had some pretty amazing conversations about Lost and gender over the years, and a recent post on the Tiger Beatdown blog (which blog I have come to adore) discusses with amazing clarity the sorts of problems we have with all those ladies without jobs who spend all their time mooning over boys. Perhaps you'll enjoy the post as much as I did.

That said, there have been too dang many new characters. It's a deserted island with a revolving door to practically anywhere.
Thanks for the link to the post. It was funny! Yes, I am really tired of all the woman=uterus stuff on Lost. There has been less of it this season, which is a relief.
I like the point about how Lost is basically really good manly pulp fiction. I think that's pretty much true. In one of those specials, one of the creators talked about how every character has to have his moment to "man up," and that's when I realized that he really didn't consider the female characters *characters* so much as set dressing and plot device.
It's kind of frustrating, because I still like Lost, but the sexism gets in the way for me at times.
