If you want to get into the Discworld series, start around book 3 ("Equal Rites") or 4 ("Mort") - he didn't really start getting into his stride until then.

Pick up "Good Omens", by Pratchet and Neil Gaiman. Great, funny book about the Apocalypse. You will laugh your ass off.

Also, Gaiman's book "American Gods" is a great read as well.

Actually, anything by Gaiman... he's a master.

I was just introduced by a friend to Laurell K. Hamilton's "Anita Blake" novels. Addictive, assuming you like vampires. http://www.laurellkhamilton.org/Anita/ABBooks1.htm The first book was good, but the series got VERY good a couple of books later. I recommend starting with number one for continuity's sake, though.

And yes, I'm jealous. It sounds delicious!

I also recommend Anything by Neil Gaimen Highly...considering you seem to have a "fantasy" bend, I might go with "Stardust" (The movie comes out next year.

If you happen to like goth (as in Anne Rice before she sold out) Pick up "The Books of Paridys" by Tanith Lee...evilly wonderful reads...
