A Christmas Story...do you know what and why you celebrate?

Dec 21, 2006 23:32

OMS! I think that's a fantastic website. I will have to devote a bit more time in exploration of it when I get home from work tonight. Thank you for sharing that.

There were several people on the Roman Records with Jesus as their name... but that's about it.

I'm EXTREMELY pissed off that you made absolutely no mention of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. For shame!

Arrrrr.

Seeing that spaghetti has its roots in the Arab world, there is little chance that our delicious overlord would have been acknowledged by the established church.

*GASP* Oh dear! Well, upon further contemplation, I don't think the FSM would want to have anything to do with such a hoax of a holiday. I do know that most of my friends eat spaghetti on Xmas. Hmm...

It's impressive just how many non christian holidays, christianity usurped. There aren't many that weren't. Of course, nobody expects originality from a bunch of people who were busy saying "Convert or die" but meh...just my lowly opinion :D

I love you....

I already knew all this. Most "holidays" are based on Pagan ritual and celebrations. I only celebrate my b-day and New Years ;-)

lmao. Yes, some of us did know these things already. My b-day is my favorite holiday also. New Years is up in the air too. Depends on which calendar you go by.

Technically, that was also ganked from the pagans, albeit at a later date. Traditionally, what we now call April fool's day was the New Year for many nature based religions. From what little memory still serves me at this point, Christians basically changed it to throw a wrench into things and maneuver themselves into more of a position of power.

Yes, and there is also November 1st, which at one point was considered the New Year. Personally, it's all just commercialism now. That is our new god. Hmm...well that's a discouraging thought. Eww.
