Flight vs teleportation

Jun 06, 2006 17:47

Poll EDIT: Flying is intended to imply "in Earth's atmosphere".

Incidentally, the poll was inspired by this comic.

BONUS QUESTION: If you're voting for teleportation because of speed, how fast would you have to be able to fly before you would change your vote?

Flying would be much much more fun than teleporting, but the ability to visit people I want to see any day I want would bring much more joy into my life than flying!

Can I bring stuff with me when I teleport? If I could teleport myself along with a small set of glider wings, say, it'd go much of the way to being able to fly. If I don't get to bring stuff with me, that'd make it less useful for going to work. At my current job, anyway.

Let's say both teleportation and flying allow you to take as much with you as you could reasonably carry on your person while bicycling. It'll cost you in energy expenditure, of course.

Instant by secular definitions. Call it less than a second.

Like many people I find that flying has a strong visceral appeal. And I don't know if teleporting might as well. I think teleporting would do more to make my life better, but it might depend a bit on who I was flying with.
