This came up on a tv show recently and heard someone mention it IRL last season - why do people hate when someone uses a family photo as a Christmas card?  I love it, personally.  When else do you get to see some of the people that you get Christmas cards from ( Read more... )

I have no problem with receiving cards that have a photo of the whole family. What does irritate me is when someone sends me a photo of just their kid. No rest of the family, no pets, just the freaking kid. By itself. Usually looking off into the distance kind of fussy-like.

I don't know why that bothers me so much, it just does.

I too like family photo Christmas cards, especially if they're something fun and not all matchy matchy douchebaggery. I appreciate getting a photo, because otherwise I'm not interested in the card at all - it's just more clutter and waste - and I'm not returning the gesture either way.

I've been getting more cards in recent years for things like Valentine's day (like, from family) and Easter and whatever else, and that just has to stop.

It's kind of the context. I don't like getting family photos from acquaintances who only talk about their kids. I love getting family photos from friends, and especially friends whose kids I've actually interacted with.

If someone thinks enough of me to send me a card, I'm cool with whatever they want to do with it. Family in matching sweaters? Cool.

Oh, and it's late March. Your post about Christmas cards is awesome.
