Guitar & Bass Amps

Looking to get hold of some guitar and bass amplifiers so could the musicians among you recommend some options. I'm looking for some sturdy workhorses that can take a rough handling but also have a decent sound.

Go for solid-state power amps, and preferably solid state pre-amps too, though this is less important. Bass amp wise (I'm no authority on guitar amps) I'd suggest a Laney head and cab, or maybe Warwick? How much do you have to spend? You only need one cab for bass, so I'd go for a 4x12, though if it's good quality you can maybe get away with a 1x15 or something.

Any help?

Cheers, that's given me some initial points to check out,
Money is a bit vague at the moment as they're for work so it the powers that be will decide but I guess no more than about £500 for cab and head. They'll be used (hired out) for practice room shenanigans & gigs so potential abuse is probably a factor in price.

Crate solid state guitar amps are pretty shit-hot for the money and can take some pretty serious abuse. Even the 100w combos are pretty awesome, which'll save you the hassle of getting seperate head and cab.

A combo is going to be better for portability / abuse handling power. Trace elliot seem to be pretty standard bass cabs. rider friendliness would be nicer than actual quality, sadly. What about the drum kit? Pearl seems pretty standard. Why am i replying to this...?
