You tend to forget that things like this had to start somewhere, with an idea, and someone had to come up with it in the first place.

Far too many kicks in the crotch.
I have no patience with the idea that suffering is art, or that reading about happy characters is boring. In my opinion, a work that is all suffering and no happiness is even more boring -- if not an outright insult to the reader and a waste of their time. I've had severe mental issues in the past, and still do. I've always had some kind of inkling of their destructive impact on the people around me.
