I went 1-6 on day 1.  Here are all 7 games.  I think I played actually not too badly for the most part, though I did have the odd wobble (edit: after looking through the games again, I am now a bit less happy about my play).  My win versus wordslinger_eh and the second against spherulitic were my most poorly played, though I seemed to muff one important turn per game each ( Read more... )

i made a nonsensical comment in the quackle file in game 1 vs Chris. I could have played DIVINISE at B7. Of course it did not play at the top (My brain was fuzzy).

At the risk of starting a strategic discussion:

1. Fish WAY less. You're fishing two or three times as often as you should.

2. Err more on the side of blocking bingo lines when ahead and creating them when behind. You're not doing enough of that. Quackle is a very caring creature and will forgive you for making 5 point errors.

I agree completely with both points. It's something I need to focus on for sure. In general, my bingo knowledge isn't letting me down too badly - rather it's my scrabble sense that isn't there.

To this end -- before I fish, I always try to find my highest scoring play regardless of leave, so I'm very aware of what I'm giving up by fishing. Often there's a scoring play that's going to be better than the fish if you look hard enough.

I think it may be a tendency I've picked up from playing too much quackle and checking what speedy player's picks are. I like your suggestion - I should probably try that.
