Summer school doesn't check pre-requisites and an add-card overrides pre-requisites.

Ah yes, I forgot about adding. Thanks for the reminder.

I haven't officially enrolled in summer school yet. I'm going to meet with an academic counselor to talk about this tomorrow. Summer school didn't check prereqs, but I've been getting emails from ICS saying that summer school checking is getting more rigorous. I don't want to sign up for a couple of classes and realize I can't sign up for one or two that I need.

True, but someone in the SOA might suggest summer school as a way to get around the pre-requisite.

Or get the damn thing cleared. Under explanation, list "catalog rights - I was here in Fall 2001 when 67 wasn't a pre-req to 171"

I'm hoping for the second. We shall see tomorrow.

Hmm there's a good chance that the ICS counselor will allow you to bypass the stats requirement if you make an appointment or whatever. I'm almost 100% certain that there is an official rule stating that you are allowed to use the graduation requirements from your catalogue year.

Oh and, instant coffee is awesome.

I met with a counselor today. She told me to fill out a petition. Ugh.

I don't need the class as a degree requirement, I need it as a prereq to take ICS 171. It wasn't there as a prereq in the last 4 years.

I dont think that they would be to rigid in pre-reqs but I am glad that you will finally be done this year. Now you can move on to bigger and better things, like slacking off in lab.

I saw your haircut. It isnt as fuzzy as previous times.

I'm waiting to see the counselor right now. They *shouldn't* be so rigid, but the ICS has never failed to be a pain in the ass when it can be. I've found that I love the people in the Physical Sciences department simply because they get things done and aren't slow about it. Moreover, they usually use some common sense when it comes to waiving/meeting prereqs. I think that essentially I like them for using a little bit of thought in their actions, which is more than I can say for the ICS department.

yeah, so I'm out now. That meeting was essentially useless. I was told to fill out a petition to waive the requirement. In other words, the counselor has no idea what the difference in content between similar courses is, or perhaps she's just too lazy to check the listings in the course catalogue. If I had any advice for an entering UCI freshman, it would be to avoid the school of ICS like a VD-ridden whore. I'd say to all ICS majors to never go in for counseling. I asked what classes were available to take, and I got a roundabout response equating to "you can look it up for yourself in the catalogue".

That really sucks, but a similar situation happened where I required one course to graduate (and there was no freaking space because they only had 12 fume hoods) and I had to petition with the dean to get another comparable course in its place. The good thing was that I only waited half a week to determine my fate and they approved the course. Petitions are a pain in the butt, but they do get answered. Id schedule an appointment with the dean and just talk to him. Counselors have no authority.
