We get all our cables from a third party. Dell tried to sell us them at about that price.

Just like so many industries, the "main product" is there to attract clientelle and the "extras" are actually a main source of profit. Same with movie theatres (or any other kind of performance/concert/sports event/etc...)

Yeah, but even at the cinema prices are about double or tripe. Not 25 times the regular price. Even Odeon won't get away with that... "Yes, that can of coke will be £12.50 please."

Hah, but now you're comparing apples to oranges. If you go and buy coke bulk, i.e. syrup and carbonated water, their markup is *hugely* beyond the 25x markup. If you want to compare similars here, walk into a local radio shack/bestbuy/maplin/etc... You're looking at about $5-$10 for a 3 meter cat5e or cat6 cable.
