God only knows - and I'm an atheist.
I really wouldn't know what a good, solid, long term relationship looks like, since I've never had much luck in the way of relationships at all. My fault, mostly, from being an insufferable prick who doesn't tolerate fools gladly.
The ones that last, however, do tend to have one ingredient which binds the flimsiest of relationships together.
Trust.
If both parties get to trust each other, they could potentially see the relationship last until their dying day. No trust, and no matter how hot the parties get while they're together, no matter how steamy or passionate or romantic, they'll eventually split up.
Trust is only the first step in a long journey. You need trust so you can give each other room to breath. You need room to breath so you can realize how far is too far to wander. If you wander too far, you will place yourself in a situation where you shouldn't be trusted. This can lead to the end of the relationship

"What does a good relationship look like? One where you're not always rowing, or resentful, and without there being a huge distance between you?"
That is what you asked. So I talked about how to avoid pointless fights, how not to resent them for your choices, and how to close the gap between you and your partner. Both people have to try and you will see him/her do this. I assumed you didn't mean how it literally looked from the outside.
