As a very satisfied client, I am pleased to see you turning this into a possible business, and encourage anyone who's even vaguely possibly contemplating considering this budget system as a useful tool to TRY IT, absolutely. It's amazing how quickly it rearranged mine and Rachael's ideas about our finances, and it's helped our savings to finally, really start to grow. We haven't started any risky stock plans or bought real estage, we just have a much clearer picture of what we're spending where, what we don't NEED to spend where, and how much we want to be sure and set aside every month for the future.

There's even room for my comics. Rock.

Of course, as a friend and an iconoclast, I do have to say the table dancing sounds entertaining...

He's not fooling, y'all. I was on the money see-saw, all "whee, I got paid!" "boo, bills are due!" "whee, there's some left over!" "boo, this totally random $2,500 expense appeared OUT OF NOWHERE and now I'm beyond screwed!" and with the help of this spreadsheet, I was able to track where everything was going, figure out what bills needed to be paid when, calculate what shared bills my fiance needed to pay, and put a little bit aside.

My car was totaled in December. I not only paid back a $1,000 loan within six weeks, my honeymoon fund is up to $1,500 (okay, tax refunds helped there). Just being aware of the cash flow makes an amazing difference. We changed our spending habits just slightly, and knowing that we're truly living within our means makes us feel good about the luxuries we do allow ourselves. The shame of living with my parents hasn't gone away, but dammit, we're going to have a beautiful honeymoon.

Every time you've brought up your budget spreadsheet, I've been interested, but then I think, naw, because the truth is, I have no regular income now, and I'm carrying way more debt than I ever have but bringing in basically nothing since I decided to go freelance just when the economy went in the toilet. Whee.

So I have trouble envisioning what it could do for me other than depress me further. Also, I'm so DUM when it comes to anything numbery or businessy that I'm not sure I'd know what to do with it. And life has been scary and confusing and I think a lot about living in my car.

I don't know. Maybe we should do coffee or something and you can sell me!

Ahh, but this is exactly why it might help to have a system in place - because you don't have regular income. The less predictable things are, the closer things should be watched. Having a clear plan would probably give you a much better sense of how you can get that debt paid down faster. The debt is depressing until progress is made, and progress usually isn't made until there is a proactive plan. Money is actually a lot less scary when you take control of the situation, in my experience. :-) I'd be happy to meet up sometime and talk over your situation with you in detail if you'd like, sure!
