For a first time, you're on the right track. What program are you using, and what modeling technique? (poly, NURBS, subdivision?)

I'm using Swift 3D. It allows me to export the animations I make in Swift and import them into Flash! For the most part I'm using mainly polys and I finish it up doing subdivisons.

I downloaded a trial of this, maya, and 3ds max so that I can try them all out. So far the easiest to use would have to be Swift 3D. I haven't dabbled with the other two much yet, but I will.

I made a coffee mug and a snow cone today!

Stick to swift for now. Eventualy, as you gain skill, you'll run into roadblocks that can't be solved with it's simpler toolset. That's when you know to switch to a professional suite. Maybe try for something a bit more precise. Something with congruous sides (like a dice) or something organic (like a badger or tree) would be best to increase your skills. Don't do too much in rendering yet. Wait for 3DS or Maya for that, so you can learn a real rendering platform. Swift is too limited to teach you anything useful.
