One Acts!

What a lovely week of plays. I submitted a play this year and it didn't get accepted but it was used in a "Plays in Progress" reading series. Basically the actors read through the play for an audience, and afterward there is a discussion about the play. Then I take the info we discussed and use it to improve my script and prep it to submit next ( Read more... )

Sorry your play didn't get accepted, but that's definitely a plus that you still got the chance to glean feedback on your writing. I'm always envious of people who aren't afraid to actually show other people what they've written...I love to write, but I'm so insecure about everything I put to paper that I don't think I'll ever have the nerve to actually show a group of people. =P So kudos to you, sir! haha!

When is Summer Fest? I'm really interested in actually going to a bunch of plays, etc. this summer, because I've always had a kick-ass time at the few I have seen over the years and it lets me live my (never-to-be-fulfilled-because-of-inherent-Alanna-awkwardness) dream of acting vicariously through other people. hahahaha!

I hate showing my writing to people...well, I wouldn't say I hate it. I'm just nervous to hear the reaction. But if I want the plays to be produced I kinda have to show people haha That's another positive of the writers group. I have to show people my stuff once or twice a month. So hopefully that will help.

As for when the plays in the summer are, I'm not sure. Last year the street fest was in the first week of August.

As for the acting dream, I have the same problem. I'd love to be able to get up on stage and act. Maybe it will happen some day. But for right now I'll stick to the writing part of it. I directed my play last summer and that helped a lot with the nerves. Being director you kinda have to talk to a group of people haha

If you have any writing that you're looking to have critiqued send er my way, I'd love to read it!.

I hear you Alanna. I feel so uncomfortable showing anyone my art. I've also always wanted to be in a play although I'm hoping to actually do that at some point in my life despite me being scarred shitless of it. ahha. If you're home in the summer deff come out to plays! It's one thing I'm looking forward to over the summer.

I definitely think the writers group will help big time. It'll be productive to have constant feedback on your work from people involved with plays themselves!

Yessum! We have 5 people involved thus far. I see no reason why we couldn't include 1 more if your intrigue is sufficient.

Well, I have plenty fo intrigue, so hopefully it's enough as it sounds like a fun time.

Sounds good to me. AS of right now we are going to get together on April 8th. We're not sure where yet. So I'll let you know!

It's always a bit nervewracking to have someone else read your work. I think the stress is usually worth it though if it can help you out in the long run. The writers group sounds like a fantastic opportunity. I hope it's very successful! C:
