Men's conference

I attended a men's conference at Shoreline Christian Center over the past two days, along with dragonsgold5's husband, Chris.  At first, I didn't really want to go, mainly because the thought of getting up that early on a Saturday seemed like torture to me, but it turned out that it started at 8am, rather than 7, so it wasn't too bad.

When I met you, I always knew you could be the man you are now; and now you are that man. :o) I am so proud of you.

There are a lot of kids out there who are essentially lost, be it to God or society. For such children, even one, any one, positive influence can be all it takes to save them from a wasted life.

The Star Thrower

There was a man who was walking along a sandy beach where thousands of starfish had been washed up on the shore. He noticed a boy picking the starfish one by one and throwing them back into the ocean. The man observed the boy for a few minutes and then asked what he was doing. The boy replied that he was returning the starfish to the sea, otherwise they would die. The man asked how saving a few, when so many were doomed, would make any difference whatsoever? The boy picked up a starfish and threw it back into the ocean and said "Made a difference to that one..."

The man left the boy and went home, deep in thought of what the boy had said. He soon returned to the beach and spent the rest of the day helping the boy throw starfish in to the sea....

Chris has just been brimming with talk about the Shoreline conference. I'm glad y'all got to go together!

I don't know what to think about megachurches. I've had the assumption all this time that if they're that big it's because they're seriously watering down the message, or else they're preaching a dangerously misleading "health and wealth" gospel....so it's refreshing to hear that there's at least one church that defies this assumption.

Our church is small too, fewer than 300 currently but growing. Chris and I have had a *lot* of discussions about church growth and the emerging church. I'm hopeful our little church can find ways to stay culturally relevant yet Biblically sound. Folks our age and younger have told me that they prefer a lively service with contemporary music: some of them won't even go to a local church if all they offer is a traditional service, but instead they will drive forty minutes one way to attend a contemporary service!
