Like whoa, I've been MIA for eons here!! It's been a weird and busy year (although not a bad one), and as a result I found my fannish energy level very low for a while. Too many other mental distractions, I think! But I think my appetite for fandom is returning, so I hope to be here more often. (Or on DW? Is everyone moving there

I have a DW, but I'm not moving there. *shrugs* I think LJ would have to die in the arse completely for me to leave it. It's like a comfy pair of old slippers, you know?
I'm only watching Castle and The Office these days, so I suspect I'm not much use to you, fandomwise!
Happy holiday type greetings to you, my dear.

It's good to see you in these parts, too!

Well, between the latest controversy over the re-design and the DDOS attacks, people always seem to be threatening to leave. I'm not particularly bothered by the changes, and I kind of side-eye people who complain about the attacks, given that they're instigated by people trying to suppress free speech. I don't know, I feel like threatening to move to DW is a tired meme at this point. Like msgenevieve said, LJ would probably have to completely go up in flames for me to leave.
Fandom pimp! Yay! Hmmm...well, recently I've been watching Doctor Who, which is highly amusing, and I think you would like the River Song character. She's an older woman (Alex Kingston who plays her is 48) but is an Indiana Jones type and definitely portrayed as sexually attractive, which in of itself is pretty revolutionary. She's in a relationship with the protagonist, who looks to be in his late 20s. Well, he's actually a 900-year old time-travelling alien, so the age thing is moot, but it's still a bit subversive and there ( ... )

Doctor Who is one of those shows that I've enjoyed well enough, but never really got into enough that I would go to the trouble of watching regularly. But the new character sounds interesting! (That's a huge scary fandom though!! Aiieeeee!)
But Game of Thrones sounds verrrrrry intriguing!
The consensus seems to be that the show creates great female characters, and then doesn't treat them very well. But I do recommend the show! Just be prepared to rage a bit.
You know, that might actually make it a *perfect* fandom show. When I come across wonderful characters who aren't given justice by TPTB, I get obsessed with the need to set things right in fic! (That's why I started writing LFN, after all.) So...I will definitely check this out! (I trust your taste as well - it's excellent!)

If you want to check out River Song specifically, try "Silence in the Library" (season 4), "The Time of Angels" (season 5), and "The Pandorica Opens" (season 5). But I do recommend the show starting from season 5--it's a lot of fun.
Yeah, Game of Thrones could share some of the fix-it qualities that made LFN so irresistible to write. But I do feel Game of Thrones has more serious problems than the continuity issues in LFN--I tended to feel fairly benevolent towards the latter when they screwed things up, but I've felt actively pissed off with GoT because of the aforementioned misogyny. It's not good if you get ( ... )

People do have conversations on Tumblr--and good ones, too--but the site is primarily about the sharing of images. I find it really elegant and easy to use, and I would recommend it to people who aren't even into graphics; you can pop in, soak up the atmosphere, and then go back to writing and interacting elsewhere. It's definitely an integral part of the fannish landscape now, and for good reason, I think.

I highly recommend Luther. Six hours and what a ride. And I really think you'll like the character of Alice. :-)

Merry Christmas to you as well! :-)

This is definitely up (our) alley. Alice is a fascinating character - absurdly smart, manipulative, slightly psychotic...and riveting. Too bad she's not featured much in S2 - but watch the series pilot, which is the best morgan-time you can get.
Ahh, I love her.

Alice and the intriguing dialogues between her and Luther are fascinating!
