So today fullmetalpussy (a.k.a. Large Marge), Marzipain and went down to lend support to the counter-protest against "Pastor" Fred Phelps and his mongers of hate (see previous entry). Large Marge lent me a set of outdoor wheels, so I also got to skate outside for the first time -- this was challenging, and even a bit frightening, but kinda cool, ( Read more... )

i had a horrible, non-alcohol triggered, vomit-inducing migraine all day today and could not be part of this protest, even though i so badly wanted to be there.

I mean, you know in your head that such people exist, but then to see people, real people, ten feet from you, holding signs reading "God Hates Fags and You Too," and shouting all sorts of stuff is a bit stupefying. They actually exist.oh yeah they exist. . . in louisiana ( ... )

You live in Hampden! You don't see hate and violent things yelled at you based on nothing?

One of the last protesty things I did (besides the pro choice march in DC a couple of years ago, not really a protest) was to mock some Pro-Life protesters who'd camped out in front of our local PP for weeks.

We were the More Life Coalition. We had signs of extreme made up Pro-Life slogans. The Pro-lifers didn't get that we were mocking them (they thought voting rights for fetuses was a great idea).

But Pro-Choice people didn't get it either and spit on us, etc.

The left can be just as dumb as the right.

ha ha ha! That's quite funny, I especially like "Death to the Infertiles" . . .

You live in Hampden! You don't see hate and violent things yelled at you based on nothing?

Oh, of course I do. But they're not protected by the police, and operating under the guise of doing God's bidding. Hampden hate isn't God's hate. It's drug hate, drink hate, family hate, gentrification hate, what have you. And, ironically, all of these sources strike me as a more valid source (if there can be such a thing) for hate than a Christian notion of "God."

Yeah, race is another kind of hate, but one that isn't really directed at me personally . . .
