Twilight Fic: to sin, and salvation (Edward Cullen)

Mar 03, 2008 23:47

New fandom, new fic. Inspired solely because of my personal interests, and because Edward Cullen is so very intoxicating. I posted the teaser of this as a lame birthday gift for ladybracknell and felt inspired to finish the rest. Concrit, as always, is desired. Suggestions of where to share this in Twilight fandom are also requested.

I'm just beginning to explore Twilight fanfic. It's such a huge fandom and I feel so late to the party. :)

This was so fabulously written! So beautiful and somehow had a quietness to it. I love that you chose 3rd person, because even though I love the books, I really, really wish they weren't in 1st person.

I love how you touch on different times in his life, there are 100 years there and yet you only just touch on a few and it doesn't seem at all rushed or abridged.

These were my absolute favorite lines:

and Rosalie’s indignant presence makes him grateful to be solitary.

By then, there is no pain where his heart should be at all.

He is not ashamed of this voyeuristic tendency, and considers it the natural extension of his gift, the byproduct of this bitter curse.

There are far too many black marks on his soulless flesh to do him any more harm.

Beautiful!

I don't think there's any way to be late to the party if the party's still going on. I just got here about a month and a half ago, if that makes you feel better :)

And thank you for your review :)

Oh my goodness. This is gorgeous. Really. I adore Edward's voice in this, and I think you've painted his solitariness - his reasoning for it and his responses to it - so very well. The historical details add to the sense of life going on around him, and without him; life is transitory, especially to him now. I really like that.

I also like how he seems always on the outside, first with Esme and Carlisle, later with the lovers he watches. Somehow it's never something for him ... until Bella. Your descriptions of them unraveling for each other are beautiful.

I love that he had a crush on Mary Pickford. And somehow I'm picturing Alice looking a little like Clara Bow. ;)

Thanks for the link. I really love it. :D

Thank you kindly :) I find Edward infinitely fascinating, and really like exploring all the many facets of his personality and his loneliness just sort of seemed so important. I love how in the book Esme thought something was wrong with him - at least, I swear it was in the book, the first one. Oh Edward Cullen...

Thanks for reading :)

This is stunning.

I wish I could really put into words how much I loved each line, loved how you split the piece, loved the descriptions. I wish I could be a little more eloquent and say more than 'this piece really resonated with me'. But I can't find the words other than to say I really loved it and think it's fabulous!

Did I comment on this? I can't remember. I don't think so, but it will in no way hurt to reiterate how amazing this is. The style, the pace...perfect. I could read your writing for days on end, as silly as that sounds.

Yay!

Thanks so much for writing.
