If you ever get sick of writing a character's name over and over so use phrases like "the other" or describe them by characteristic ("the baker" "the brown-eyed man"), please read this:

Good one, thanks for linking! Now I know why I'm always bothered by epithets.

Yeah, I'd always had trouble identifying what exactly irritated me about them.

I'm really horrified by this writer I see who keeps posting new chapters of her fic with the title spelled differently in the subject line vs the fic header. It's awkward but understandable when you do it once, but every new chapter?

HDU Shakespeare is awesome.

I vote John Steinbeck to fill his place.

I was torn between Steinbeck and Faulkner for my #4

I hate it when people get defensive over criticism of their characterization. Personally, I like to see characterizations that come from the author's experience with the character, rather than their experience with derivative works (i.e. other authors' writings. unfortunately also bad translations, which is just frustrating).

And sometimes people are so bad with characterizing that their characters are more like caricatures with only one defining feature.
