North Yorkshire Moors and seaside trip -- the last gasp of summer
Two weekends ago, Edward and I went to the University of Hull so I could get some samples from some people who had been peat coring in Orkney. Our sample-getting was successful and I am currently processing the first batch to look for microtephras.

Home sick. Internet. Fandomsecrets.
I am not really sick. I don't know what's wrong with me but I have this cough that has been going since late yesterday afternoon and won't stop. It's a dry cough. My throat is scratchy, but from coughing! It feels fine otherwise! I have no idea what is up. I left the lab because:

2000 words a day... what was I thinking..........
My stated goal of writing 2000 words/day of solid academic work for the next three weeks (weekdays only) did not go so well yesterday, when I managed to write about 100. Now I am up to 398 and have been working on it solidly for nearly an hour. UGH. And I am trying for 3000 today to make up for what I didn't do yesterday. The little "Word count ( Read more... ) -
Passport finally returned to me, but no national ID card yet.
So after about 20 weeks of holding my passport and various other important documents (proof that I'm a student, original transcripts, etc.), the UK Home Office has finally seen fit to return my passport to me. So Dawn, Nick, and I jumped into the fjord tonight. Thusly, I have completed the Four Oceans Challenge, having now swum in all four of the world's oceans. Granted, I was in the Arctic Ocean for about 20 seconds, if even that, because the fjord was unbelievably cold. I mean really, really cold. Colder than a mountain lake in Colorado.
